Project Patrick
Before Patrick Leibforth was born, his parents, Bob and Mary, and his older siblings Kevin and Sean, undertook a room addition and remodel of their home in unincorporated Lake Zurich. Patrick has undergone heart surgery, battled pneumonia, and only eaten through a feeding tube. He was born with a congenital heart defect and the walls of his heart did not form properly.
When Patrick is home from the hospital, Bob and Mary pull alternating twelve-hour “shifts” to monitor his blood-oxygen level and heart readings. When he is in the hospital, Bob and Mary alternate visiting him at Children’s Memorial Hospital in Chicago and staying home to care for Kevin and Sean.
Once Patrick was born and his medical bills began to mount, all work on the house stopped, materials were returned and the home equity loan taken for the work was applied to his medical care.
The Rotary Club of Lake Zurich heard of this family’s situation and decided they could make a difference. The club coordinated "Project Patrick", an effort to complete work on the house, as well as provide the family with some financial "peace of mind".
The National Association of the Remodeling Industry’s Greater Chicagoland Chapter and the Lincoln State Council of the Painting and Decorating Contractors of America have both enthusiastically agreed to have their members volunteer their time, industry skills, and materials to complete the remodel and paint the rooms inside the house.
